WORSHIP- EASTER
Song: Thank You God For Saving Me
Artist: Chris Tomlin with Phil Wickham
Album: Burning Lights
- The combination of Chris Tomlin and Phil Wickham is mind-blowingly amazing.
Anyway, besides this being a great song musically, it’s a good prayer as well. On Good Friday, I realized how numb I’ve become to the Gospel, and the next day, God kind of hit me with how awesome it is, and how great his gift is.

WORSHIP
Song: Crown Him Majesty
Artist: Chris Tomlin (featuring Kari Jobe)
Album: Burning Lights
- Pretty great hymn sung by Chris Tomlin (I actually didn’t realize how hymn-like it sounded until reading it somewhere on tumblr, and after doing some researching I realized it was an actual hymn [look up Crown Him With Many Crowns]). For me personally, the song is the best when it nears its end.
Lyrics:
Crown him with many crowns,
The Lamb upon His throne.
Hark, how the heavenly anthem drowns
All music but its own!
Awake, my soul, and sing
Of Him who died for me
And hail Him as thy matchless King
Through all eternity.
Majesty, Lord of all
Let every throne before Him fall.
The King of Kings, oh come adore
Our God who reigns forevermore.
Crown Him the Lord of life,
Who triumphed over the grave,
And rose victorious in the strife
For those He came to save.
His glories now we sing,
Who died, and rose on high,
Who died eternal life to bring,
And lives that death may die.
Majesty, Lord of all
Let every throne before Him fall.
The King of Kings, oh come adore
Our God who reigns forevermore.
Forevermore
All hail, Redeemer, hail!
For He has died for me;
His praise and glory shall not fail
Throughout eternity.
All hail, Redeemer, hail!
For He has died for me;
His praise and glory shall not fail
Throughout eternity.
Majesty, Lord of all
Let every throne before Him fall.
The King of Kings, oh come adore
Our God who reigns forevermore.
Majesty, Lord of all
Let every throne before Him fall.
The King of Kings, oh come adore
Our God who reigns forevermore.
Praise God who reigns forevermore.
You’re the God who reigns forevermore.

Song: Jesus, Son of God
Artist: Passion (Featuring Chris Tomlin and Christy Nockels)
Album: Passion: White Flag
- When I first heard this song off Chris Tomlin’s newest album, I recognized it as a song I had sung before (either at CRU or at church). It’s a great song. Best lyric: “The cross was enough.”
Lyrics:
You came down, from heaven’s throne
This earth You formed, was not Your home
A love like this, the world had never known
A crown of thorns, to mock your name
Forgiveness fell upon Your face
A love like this, the world had never known
On the altar of our praise
Let there be no higher name
Jesus Son of God
You laid down Your perfect life
You are the sacrifice
Jesus Son of God
You are Jesus Son of God
You took our sin
You bore our shame
You rose to life
You defeated the grave
A love like this, the world has never known
You took our sin
You bore our shame
You rose to life
You defeated the grave
A love like this, the world has never known
On the altar of our praise
Let there be no higher name
Jesus Son of God
You laid down Your perfect life
You are the sacrifice
Jesus Son of God
You are Jesus Son of God
Be lifted higher
Than all You’ve overcome
Your name be louder
Than any other song
There is no power
That can come against Your love
The cross was enough
The cross was enough
The cross was enough
The cross was enough

SPOTLIGHT ALBUM
Song: Lay Me Down
Artist: Chris Tomlin
Album: Burning Lights
- Chris Tomlin’s new album seems to draw its musical influence from mainstream bands (this song undoubtedly has a Mumford and Sons sound to it and I’ve read in a review* that a few songs have a Coldplay sound to them), and has some great tracks on it. It’s probably one of the first worship albums I’ve listened to, since I usually find new songs by singing them in church or CRU (we sang “Lay Me Down” in CRU this past Thursday, and thus, Burning Lights played on my Spotify).
Other great tracks include “White Flag,” “Crown Him (Majesty),” and “Jesus, Son of God,” but the whole album is worth giving a listen.
While I’ve listened to this song, I’ve been too focused on how Mumford and Sons-sounding it is, rather than on the lyrics and the message of the song. This song definitely has convicting lyrics, especially “it will be my joy to say, your will, your way”. All too often I want to live my own life for me and do things my way instead of giving myself completely to God and trusting His will. I want to use my time the way I want to rather than seeking God and asking how He wants me to use the time He’s given me for His glory.
Lyrics:
With this heart open wide
From the depths, from the heights
I will bring a sacrifice
With these hands lifted high
Hear my song, Hear my cry
I will bring a sacrifice
I will bring a sacrifice
I lay me down I’m not on my own
I belong to You alone
Lay me down, lay me down
Hand on my heart, this much is true
There’s no life apart from You
Lay me down, lay me down
Letting go of my pride
Giving up all my rights
Take this life and let it shine
Take this life and let it shine
I lay me down I’m not on my own
I belong to You alone
Lay me down, lay me down
Hand on my heart, this much is true
There’s no life apart from You
Lay me down, lay me down
Lay me down, lay me down
It will be my joy to say
Your will, Your way
It will be my joy to say
Your will, Your way
It will be my joy to say
Your will, Your way
Always
It will be my joy to say
Your will, Your way
It will be my joy to say
Your will, Your way
It will be my joy to say
Your will, Your way
Always
I lay me down I’m not on my own
I belong to You alone
Lay me down, lay me down
Hand on my heart, this much is true
There’s no life apart from You
Lay me down, lay me down
I lay me down I’m not on my own
I belong to You alone
Lay me down, lay me down
Hand on my heart, this much is true
There’s no life apart from You
Lay me down, lay me down
Oooh
Lay me down, lay me down

Song: I Stand Amazed
Artist: Chris Tomlin
Album: Passion:Everything Glorious
-This Thursday in CRU we talked about the Resurrection and it’s importance in our faith, as well as the importance of making Christ our foundation.
Anyway, this song came into my head during/ towards the end of the talk, and we ended up singing it as one of the response songs.
How marvelous and wonderful is His love for us!
Lyrics:
I stand amazed in the presence
Of Jesus the Nazarene,
And wonder how He could love me,
A sinner, condemned, unclean.
O how marvelous! O how wonderful!
And my song shall ever be:
O how marvelous! O how wonderful!
Is my Savior’s love for me!
I stand amazed in the presence
Of Jesus the Nazarene,
And wonder how He could love me,
A sinner, condemned, unclean.
O how marvelous! O how wonderful!
And my song shall ever be:
O how marvelous! O how wonderful!
Is my Savior’s love for me!
He took my sins and my sorrows,
He made them His very own;
He bore the burden to Calvary,
And suffered and died alone.
O how marvelous! O how wonderful!
And my song shall ever be:
O how marvelous! O how wonderful!
Is my Savior’s love for me!
When with the ransomed in glory
His face I at last shall see,
’Twill be my joy through the ages
To sing of His love for me.
O how marvelous! O how wonderful!
And my song shall ever be:
O how marvelous! O how wonderful!
Is my Savior’s love for me!

All the way my Savior leads me
Cheers each winding path I tread
Gives me grace for every trial
Feeds me with the living Bread
You lead me and keep me from falling
You carry me close to Your heart
And surely Your goodness and mercy will follow me

Song: All The Way My Savior Leads Me
Artist: Christ Tomlin
Album: Hello Love
- We used to sing this song at my old church.
Lyrics:
All the way my Savior leads me
Who have I to ask beside
How could I doubt His tender mercy
Who through life has been my guide
All the way my Savior leads me
Cheers each winding path I tread
Gives me grace for every trial
Feeds me with the living Bread
You lead me and keep me from falling
You carry me close to Your heart
And surely Your goodness and mercy will follow me
All the way my Savior leads me
O, the fullness of His love
O, the sureness of His promise
In the triumph of His blood
And when my spirit clothed immortal
Wings its flight to realms of day
This my song through endless ages
Jesus led me all the way
Jesus led me all the way
You lead me and keep me from falling
You carry me close to Your heart
And surely Your goodness and mercy will follow me
You lead me and keep me from falling
You carry me close to Your heart
And surely Your goodness and mercy will follow me

Song: God of this City
Artist: Chris Tomlin
Album: Hello Love
- Whenever I heard this song, I always thought it was talking about a literal “city.” But then, as I was searching for this song and looking at the lyrics “You’re the God of this City” I saw that this “city” could also mean Heaven or even our lives themselves.
Greater things are yet to come and greater things are still to be done.
There is no one like our God.
Lyrics:
You’re the God of this City
You’re the King of these people
You’re the Lord of this nation
You are
You’re the Light in this darkness
You’re the Hope to the hopeless
You’re the Peace to the restless
You are
There is no one like our God
There is no one like our God
For greater things have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done in this City
Greater thing have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done in this City
You’re the God of this City
You’re the King of these people
You’re the Lord of this nation
You are
You’re the Light in this darkness
You’re the Hope to the hopeless
You’re the Peace to the restless
You are
There is no one like our God
There is no one like our God
For greater things have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done in this City
Greater things have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done here
There is no one like our god
There is no one like our God
Greater things have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done in this City
Greater things have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done here
